Typical questions about counseling?
What is Counseling?
Counseling is a collaboration between counselor and client. Together we will identify challenges in your life and create solutions to help move your life in a positive direction. Counseling lays the groundwork for individuals, couples, and families to strengthen their self-esteem, build better communication, and promote behavior change.
How can counseling help me?
There are times in life when certain issues or life events can cause emotional distress, put a strain on relationships, or make it feel like your world is crumbling. In counseling, I will offer the caring, expert assistance that you need during these stressful times. I will work to help you find new ways to cope with the challenges in your life.
What do I expect in my sessions?
My goal is to make the counseling atmosphere relaxed, comfortable, and free from judgment. During your initial session, we will discuss your current situation and relevant history. From there, each counseling session is constructed from the goals you have identified as the basis for your growth.
Is there counseling for children and teens?
Yes. Children and teens are often helped by having their own individual sessions, sometimes in combination with family counseling. Teenagers can play an active role along with their counselor in deciding what will work best for them. Younger children usually benefit most from play therapy or other forms of art.
Are there any other resources for my teen?
YES! There are teen groups that will run through the summer and will continue to run throughout the school year. These groups will vary depending on age. Groups will separated by: Anxiety, Depression, Social Skills, Teen Support, and Anger. Please submit all questions that you have on these are about applying to get your child enrolled!
Are my sessions confidential?
As a client, you are guaranteed the protection of confidentiality within the boundaries of the client/counselor relationship. The only limitations to confidentiality occur when clients are considered either a threat to themselves or someone else, or when legal requirements demand that confidential information be disclosed. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our confidentiality policy.
Are you available for evening appointments?
Yes. I offer flexible evening appointments. Please contact me at 850-972-9015 to arrange a session that fits your schedule.
How much does counseling cost?
I offer a free phone consultation to all new clients that will last about 10 minutes to see if we are the right match. Thereafter, each individual, couples, or family counseling session costs $60- $90. For your convenience, I accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
There is no charge for any session rescheduled or cancelled at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment time. If you no call or no show, the card on file will be charged a one-time fee.
Why don’t you accept insurance right now?
I am a registered intern working with a licensed supervisor so I am not able to take insurances at this time. I will work with you on payments as I have a sliding scale fee application. Please feel free to ask me any questions about payment options.
